The problem is real but I don't know if people will be willing to rent sneakers. Even I had a jewellery rental startup idea. However, if you are keen on pursuing your idea then I have suggestions and advice to give. Firstly, wear and tear will occur faster as people won't care much about it's condition as they don't own it. So, you must decide whether you want to collect a security deposit or create a machine/technique to restore most of the damage or refurbish it. Also, if successful it will be niche business as the Total Addressable Market is too small. So, in order to increase the TAM you should create an online platform where people can rent occasion wear such as formal function wear shoes, hiking shoes, ethnic wear and similar categories.

Rental in either clothes or shoes is not suitable bcos it can spread skin diseases very easily,I hope that you can start another items non wearable items

What prevents bigger funded sneaker cos in India from doing this like Mainstreet etc? Seems like the natural next step for them.

This market is very risky. I would suggest not to waste your money. Firstly In some part of India someones footware is considered as “Panoti”. Secondly there are so much chances of getting duplicate products in return. So you need a very strong team and ready to take bunch of losses. In this you will be operating at very small margin so your CAC will be too high and won’t be able to sustain.

I had this idea but not only for shoes but for apparels in general. In my thinking what I found is that if you only Target occasional items the demand will be very seasonal which is not very viable. Rather if you not only have occasional clothes but also everyday wear it will be much more viable. The catch is the items have to be high price or luxury items, something people can't buy easily, and then rent it out at a very reasonable price that someone can easily afford once or twice a week.

Cool idea, given my salary I will never be able to buy my dream sneakers but would love to rent if someone allows it for special events and dates, haha. Let me know when it is live!

Bruh, Indians didnt came this long of renting a dress or even a car in many scenarios. It takes sometime to let the generational change come in. Even though you can't keep your shoe rental cost much low as you can't run you r business. So need to have a min amount of margin.most of the above middle class would definitely would own great shoes etc. so prime customers for you would be middle class but the price is very high that they can't but. The best solution in my thinking is you need to have high prices sneakers like min 1 lakh to max more. That middle class people may become your customers as per their wish they can hav ethe sneakers they want. For creating a this high capital business you definitely need a funding. So you must need atleast 1cr of initial funding for a one metro city business. You need to keep a high profit margin in begining. I hope this works. But not for large consumers but at last you can take this business potential to may be a 100 cr business. ATB

Once people rent an expensive sneaker which isn't their own, they will use it rashly and damage it. Think of how to handle this.

This will not work because operation cost will be so High. Since it's footwear it will be returned dirty. It's not easy to clean footwear and new customer won't rent the rugged shoes. So you are screwed there only.

As a user, I don't think I will prefer wearing the used shoes.
