first post here. i'm getting offered 0.4% equity in my current org vested across 4 years. this company is well funded by the same vc who invested in cursor, and anthropic. however, they aren't increasing the pay. i'm confused about what to do. take it or keep working there until i hit a better offer. still in college, btech, 3rd year starts soon. zero idea what to do. 😭

0.4% equity with no salary bump is borderline insulting, especially if you're doing meaningful work. That's giving you ownership to make you feel invested while keeping compensation low. Classic startup exploitation of college students.

what really matters is how you look at the company 10-20 years from now. taking equity for you work can be a good option only if you understand marketing, expansion and growth strategy of the company. if you don't understand that, just sit there until you get better offer. ( some companies just pay equity, not even salary)
