Yes it is overrated, I've seen many restaurants ( Mcd in Kolkata) and Cafe providing same experience of Working with cheaper rates, and Who TF works at a restaurants everyday. It's RESTtaurant. Definitely expensive.

Never been too starbucks and never will!! My own heart and brain says that until their coffee causes anti ageing or a great networking/businesses opportunity awaits there I'm not gonna enter it. It's all about luxury! There are many unknown local cafes which provide you better working ambience with free wifi.

In terms of money, consuming and as a part of lifestyle. Yes it's overrated for middle class and even rich. As coffee is not a monthly consuming thing. It's a daily consuming thing. People drink nearly 1 to 2 cups of it daily. If you see in terms of money and it is not even a thing for middle class and even rich. It's is only for super rich and HNIs. For an avg person things should be seen in a way of value + cost. But not as a fame. Fame is only for super rich and rich. That is the reason iPhone, Starbucks and some over priced clothing brands exist.
