Do you think Kingfisher was a marketing failure? Kingfisher couldnt generate much revenue during early days. They marketed a luxury premium brand, when India hardly had premium customers, and hence no demand. The premium perception was built on customers mind over a long time period. Realising lack of customers in the domain they purchased Air Deccan and rebranded it into 'Kingfisher' for lower segments, which was inconsistent with the premium brand image of Kingfisher. Customers failed to notice the shift, or they were confused and doubtful.
