Vesting schedules, cliffs, buyback clauses...these decide whether you actually benefit. Remember, they can change your life, but unlike your salary they will not pay next month’s rent. They only pay if the company succeeds, and even then, the structure decides who wins. So before you say yes, pause and ask yourself: what does this equity really mean for me?
