No, it's not that having skills are disadvantages. It's simple that you applied for a role where you skills weren't necessary for them and they can't pay you or they can't compensate you for your skills. It's kind of good practice in employment rather than underpaying the employees. They just told you that you are expert in your skills you should find a better role and apply for the matching role of your skills

"Overqualified" is usually code for "we can't afford you" or "you'll leave the moment something better comes along." Companies want skilled people but not ones who'll demand higher salaries or jump ship quickly.

Indian job market in a nutshell - "we want 5 years experience for entry level" then "sorry you're overqualified for senior roles." Make it make sense. The hiring process here is completely broken.

This exactly happened with me. Firstly I got the call from HR department to inform me that I have more experience than we require, but somehow I convinced him and they called me for interview. in the middle of the interview I sensed that his intentions are not to hire me. He kept on asking bookish terms and did not asked even a single question related to the company or how can my skills benefit to the company. That's so inprofssional

I just had a similar experience. Since we had our career planned, we try to gain all the needed respective skills and when we start searching for entry-level positions, we get into situations like this one. Keep working Dhairya, that's the only way we can get out of this. Because, getting rejected due to excessive skills is far better than getting rejected due to lack of skills.

Overqualified = underpaid threat. They’ll never admit it but that’s what it is.

This is why you need to tailor your resume for each role. Don't showcase everything - show just enough to get the job. Save the impressive stuff for salary negotiations later.

be there and done that bro India only encourages when u make money for startups or your degree when you get a job or job change they see experience with experience comes CTC which they dont want to pay or they do not have have so much "budget" they say, and the positions they prefer in-house as they know the process, India is slowly turning into Japan work culture where you cant quit you wanna quit give reason and then they sabotage coz they expect you to over work logout late no extra pay with only profit mindset indian business are running on name sake work life balance so they want cheap labour not skilled once coz over time even a monkey can gain skills for less than paying you more
