Doordash (US food delivery startup) Founders ran an interesting experiment during their early days. šŖ§They wanted to test a simple hypothesis ā Would drivers only be interested in working for the platform that pays the most? So they recruited two groups of drivers - - 20 drove for Uber - 20 drove for Doordash Both groups were earning $20/hour. Then, they made each group an offer: Switch to the other platform for a guaranteed $25/hour. Only 1 out of the 40 drivers said yes. They realized Doordash drivers might be a completely different demographic altogether. As sign-ups grew, a clearer picture emerged - - Most Doordash drivers came from retail, university campuses, and service industry roles - Cars werenāt the only option ā many chose bikes or scooters for deliveries. - Younger individuals increasingly preferred delivering for Doordash and the driver base began to skew female Today, Doordash has more than 7 million drivers, and over 60% are women.
