𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝘀 (𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁) Most people think Big Tech wins because their product is the best. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞. They win because they control 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. Sounds boring? It’s actually a 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧-𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫 growth strategy. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀: Humans are lazy. We don’t change settings. We don’t switch tools. We don’t customize much. We just use what’s 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞. That’s why “𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬” = 𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝗻: 𝟏. 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐠𝐥𝐞 → 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 Google pays Apple $20 Billion+ per year. Just to be the default search engine on iPhones. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭? → 94% of all mobile searches happen on Google. Not because people chose it. But because it was already there. 𝟐. 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐞 → 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐢𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞 • Safari = Default browser • iMessage = Default texting app • Apple Pay = Default payments • iCloud = Default storage Leaving Apple feels like hard work. That’s how Apple keeps users forever. 𝟑. 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭 → 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐈𝐧 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐂 • Bing = Default search on Windows •Teams = Pre-installed for work • OneDrive = Auto-syncs your files Most people use them without even realizing. That’s the power of default. 𝟒. 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 (𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚) → 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 • Auto-login across Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger • Contacts auto-sync • Notifications auto-on Feels easier to stay than leave. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻? 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫. This is why Big Tech 𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬. Not always because they’re better… But because they’re easier to use — by 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁: Default settings are invisible. But they control everything. If you want to grow faster — Don’t just focus on features. → Focus on becoming your user’s default choice. That’s how tiny products become unstoppable companies. I hope you've found this helpful.
