This is actually brilliant marketing. Most consumers don't actually care about or understand equity, but they LOVE the idea of ownership. Look at how NFTs exploded despite having questionable real value - people just wanted to "own" something. You could create a customer loyalty program disguised as ownership that gives people the psychological benefits of feeling like owners without the legal complexities of actual shared ownership. Create a points system that tracks "ownership percentage" and gives proportional benefits. The perception of ownership is often more powerful than actual ownership. That's what Robinhood figured out with fractional shares.
