From a Cab-Sharing App to Indonesia's Biggest Super App! So It all started when Nadiem discovered that ojek (bike taxis) drivers spent most of their time waiting for customers, while customers wasted time walking around looking for an ojek. With this problem in mind, Nadiem decided to start Gojek in 2010 with his friend Michaelangelo, connecting drivers and customers together via a call center. And this worked well, but the revolution began when they launched their new app version providing automatic booking, which scaled daily users from 3,000 to 100,000 in just one year. By the end of the year, their app itself crashed a few times due to high demand. The following year, their orders jumped to 300,000, and they also introduced GoPay for cashless payments. By 2017, they had 30 million monthly bookings, and by 2018, they had scaled to three countries, completing 100 million orders. Around the same time, they launched 20+ services across various categories like transportation, logistics, food delivery, payments, finance, and even fitness, making it a complete super app. Today, Gojek is Indonesia's first unicorn and decacorn, doing $900 million in sales profitably!
