In shorts news app was founded by Azhar iqubal, Anunay Arunav, and deepit Purkayastha in 2013. In shorts was started in 2013 with a Facebook page News in Shorts. That year they launched Inshorts, an app with a format of news in 60 words. Inshorts was started for college students for news related to their industry. In 2019, the company also launched a local news app called Public. Inshorts revenue: 2019-20: $14 million 2023: $18.3 million  FY24: ₹183.33 crore Inshorts valuation as of April 2024 was $550 million.
