The Lok Sabha elections (April 2019) were held in India, and McDonald's came up with a marketing strategy. It was a typical day, customers ordered their meals, and McDonald's delivered them, but there was a twist: not everyone received what they ordered. When furious customers approached the staff, they were told, "You will have to eat what we give you because you have lost your RIGHT TO CHOOSE by not voting." (McDonald's identified voters and non-voters by the ink on their hands.) Then it instantly went viral on social media, and McDonald's gained a positive brand image.
