Kinda agreed. However, some early stage start-ups and unlisted companies doing this kind of evaluation seems fishy to me. They can just get their work done for basically free. If they encounter any problem or want to get something else done, they will put another assignment. It seems that they're taking advantage of the current job situation where even many skilled devs are actively looking to get a job asap. I've never seen or heard of anything similar before the recession/mass layoffs began. I like your idea of licensing the software/project. I will surely look into it and learn how to do the same. Thanks

The thing is if a dev understand his worth they won't do such assignments , I am a dev too and I have seen both sides from submitting assignments to making them , In one assignment whose solution was already available on github almost 70 percent of applicants failed so companies prefer those devs who doesn't need training, some companies might do scam but if a dev is smart enough he can write code with bugs so that it will fail to scale in production so no company can exploit a good dev
