These days I'm seeing many hirer are sending assignments to consider the applicant for an interview call for an internship/job. Many of these assignments/projects have to meet some common conditions - - must be shared in a format that is ready to be deployed/hosted easily by a person without much technical know-how (mentioned implicitly) - must have secure user authentication - must have admin panel with a user friendly UI using which a person can update or add content to the website/app easily etc. All these assignments serve the needs of the corresponding companies. Almost all of these companies can only be found on the platform where they are hiring and cannot be found by search. I am all in for hirers to filter out large number of applicants by assignments but my concern is, why would a company hire and pay for an employee to do the same work that the company can get done for free by sending assignments to applicants?
