Simply, you have to work your ass off to manage clients and your full time job role. Sad and bitter reality is that full time employeers dont want you to be engaged on other side project. Simple thing is - keep your mouth shut and work portfolios diversified. In times of today personal portfolio holds more mettle than working with an employer. Skills matter. Lay-offs are a trend. These employers ain't loyal.
