There are atleast two clone apps for every big startup regardless. Cant imagine what can happen if they become opensource.

Could be multiple reasons. Indian companies often refrain from open-sourcing their code, citing reasons like safeguarding intellectual property, maintaining a competitive edge, and a preference for proprietary solutions. Cultural differences. Lot of the original silicon valley engineers are nurtured and educated in a different collaborative way than what it happens here T2/T3 Indian collages.

The big problem occurs when a rival takes your code and uses it to build a similar product. People end up choosing their version over yours. This has happened with well-known cases like MongoDB and Elastic (Elasticsearch), and it's not just limited to big players – even smaller open-source companies face the same challenge when competitors adopt their code to create competing products.

There are founders in india who refrain from telling their idea as if they are the next billion dollar company and you are talking about opensourcing code.

Making a product open source is a good idea. The challenge is covering the initial costs of building the product, which eventually need to be recovered. Once that's done, open sourcing becomes easier. If the revenue model is strong enough to sustain the ongoing development, then open source makes sense.

The biggest reason I believe is cost of maintaining their code base. It's a well known fact that a lot of times the codebase is legacy and is has hilarious hacks in place. Imagine all that out in the open.

Frame-works can be open sourced, but definitely not the solutions.
