I recently worked on a variance analysis case study in Excel to understand how real business factors impact profitability. Case Overview For a soft drink company, the comparison was: • Budgeted Profit: ₹2,00,000 • Actual Profit: ₹1,78,000 ➡ Profit declined by ₹22,000 Breaking Down the Variance Using a waterfall analysis, I identified the following drivers: Negative Impact • Sales Volume Decline: -₹80,000 → Sales dropped from 50,000 to 46,000 units, significantly impacting revenue. Positive Impact • Price Increase: +₹46,000 → Selling price increased from ₹20 to ₹21. Key Insight The most important takeaway from this analysis: Even though the company increased prices and controlled costs, the decline in sales volume had the largest negative impact on profitability. I’m currently building my skills in Financial Analysis, Credit Risk, and working on such case studies to strengthen my practical understanding. Happy to connect with professionals in finance, banking, and analytics.
