Not every email mistake is innocent, some are just careless. We’ve all seen it: An email sent to 10+ people, and everyone’s kept in the TO field. It’s one thing when a fresher or a job seeker does it, they might genuinely not know how “To,” “CC,” and “BCC” work. But when it comes from a sales rep or a professional representing a company, it’s not a mistake anymore, it’s carelessness. It happened to me recently. A freelancer reached out, and instead of using BCC, kept 8–10 email addresses in the TO field. Every single recipient could see everyone else’s email ID. And just when I thought it was a one-off error… she did it again. At that point, instead of ignoring it, I decided to take ownership and educate the sender politely. I wrote a simple, respectful email explaining why this approach is incorrect and how it exposes people’s privacy. (Basically, what you see in the image below.) Sometimes, it’s not about calling someone out, it’s about helping them do better next time. Because professionalism isn’t just about how we speak or dress. It’s also about how we communicate digitally.
