Passion Follows Mastery (Not the Other Way Around) Passion usually comes after you get good at something, not before. Think about it. You didnโ€™t wake up one day as a kid and say, โ€œDamn, Iโ€™m passionate about brushing my teeth!โ€ But over time, as you improved your personal hygiene, you began to appreciate not having a mouth that smelled like a garbage fire. The same principle applies to work. People often become passionate about what they master. Coding, design, teaching, sales, writing, none of these are inherently โ€œpassions.โ€ They become fulfilling once you put in enough hours, struggle through enough failures, and build enough competence.
