🎯 Skills vs Competence — The Difference That Changes Everything I remember interviewing a candidate who had all kinds of skills on paper. Certifications, technical information, buzz words, and so on... However, when it came to leveraging those skills in practice, he was not very competent at all. That's when it dawned on me: 👉 Skills aren't good enough. Competence is the key. Skills = What you know. Competence = How well you use it. 💡 Skills get you in the door. Competence keeps you in the door. You can think of skills (skill) building via a driving manual... vs actually driving, like in rush-hour Sydney traffic (competence). 🚗💨 ✨ Skills get you in the door. Competence keeps you in the door. So the next time you're upskill, ask yourself: 👉 Am I building solely skills… or actual competence?
