Passion Follows Mastery (Not the Other Way Around) Passion usually comes after you get good at something, not before. Think about it. You didn’t wake up one day as a kid and say, “Damn, I’m passionate about brushing my teeth!” But over time, as you improved your personal hygiene, you began to appreciate not having a mouth that smelled like a garbage fire. The same principle applies to work. People often become passionate about what they master. Coding, design, teaching, sales, writing, none of these are inherently “passions.” They become fulfilling once you put in enough hours, struggle through enough failures, and build enough competence.
