Have u guys still remember the era of Blackberry phones, it was status symbol back in 2000's. Later on, Government banned it raising concerns on BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), its killer feature. BBM: A free instant messaging service available in BlackBerry phones. It was exclusive-you needed a PIN (unique id for every device) to connect. To chat with someone, you shared your PIN>they sent u a request>you accepted. Messages were encrypted between devices, but technically they pass through BlackBerry's server. BBM did not pass through telecom in readable form. POLICE or Intelligence couldn't tap into your BlackBerry chats like they can do in SMS or in other chatting media. Means, Government couldn't read your messages without cooperation from the company running that server. India, UAE, Saudi Arabia threatened to ban Blackberry unless the company gave them a way to access messages when needed. BBM was basically the whatsapp of 2000's, but limited to only BlackBerry's phone. Crazy tech it was that gave birth the idea of chatting platform Whatsapp.
