Quality matters, sure. But long-term edge matters more. Cursor runs on someone else’s codebase, models, and infra. That’s not a moat — that’s a vulnerability.

If you can, go self-hosted. If not, use open-source tools that let you switch models anytime. Just don’t get locked into fancy wrappers with no real control.

Self hosting requires a really powerful computer and using it as a Chatbot vs as an Ai Powered IDE are 2 completely different things. You need a whole software which let's you do that. Along with that Cursor and ig ai powered IDE got something called

Cursor’s smooth, no argument there. But end of the day, it’s still riding on VS Code and rented models. Cool wrapper, but let’s not confuse that with owning the game.

Cursor won't be a $10 Billion Start-up if that was the reason. So let us just use it and leave on the investors to whether should they invest $500 Million in a single round of an Wrapper or not. Btw Similarly Perplexity is a wrappet too, but still both Apple and Zuck wants to buy it. See it's simple that big companies don't innovate a lot and even when we talk about OpenAi or Antrophic, their focus is on making better Ai Models and not to make a tools which does what every wrapper does. Leave These Ai Powered IDEs, what about Ai for Inventory Management, Ai Tool for cloning Celebrities Voices, etc etc. Why don't these Ai companies makes that? That's simply because it's too small of a market for them to focus on and they anyways get paid every time their APIs are being used. If there's a very popular service like Ai Powered Search (Intro. by Perplexity) or Ai Powered IDE (Intro. by Cursor), that they do copy. But they can't copy all. So don't just convienently say that it's just an 'Ai Wrapper'. 1000s Try, Only 1 Succeed.
