It’s been almost a decade since a horizontal consumer app penetrated like YouTube, LinkedIn, Snapchat, fb, TikTok (the last one, 9 years ago). Looks like ChatGPT is next, even though it’s not social.

The era of horizontal networks are over. The last one was TikTok almost a decade ago, which is no more in India. No more billion users with ad monetisation. But vertical apps with smaller audiences, with more focused monetisation rather than ads.

So now almost every mainstream Social Media app has a dedicated video/shorts button. Latest entry being X, followed by Linkedin, Youtube, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok. The race for attention is real. Never gonna happen on Medial though.
