Figuring Out • 4m

The Dark Rise of Uber! When Uber started, it faced legal issues for operating as a cab service. Travis' response? "We’re just a tech company connecting drivers and users." When government authorities imposed fines on Uber drivers, Uber built a tool to detect accounts made by regulators and simply showed them “No cars available.” When Uber faced competition from Lyft, it developed software to track drivers using both platforms and offered them extra bonuses to stay exclusive. Whenever Lyft tried to raise funds, Travis would find out and tell VCs, “We’re raising money soon—invest in us instead.” Uber employees used to book rides on Lyft and cancel them just before the driver arrived, wasting driver's time. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Watch their whole story in this Video.
