Scott Gorlick shared the problems that startups face and how Uber sailed through that phase. How the company overcame the chicken and egg problem, which is a common challenge faced by startups. The problem is that the company needs both riders and drivers to make money, but it can't attract riders without drivers and vice versa. The employee, who joined Uber as senior operations and logistics manager and later headed the company's strategic projects, shared three key points that helped the company overcome this problem: 1. Paying drivers to be online, even if there weren't many riders. 2. Building a customer base by placing cars near bars and restaurants. 3. Offering incentives for referrals, such as $10 off the next ride for both the referrer and the new customer. These strategies helped Uber overcome the chicken and egg problem and grow into a $140B company with over 6 million drivers.
