How did two boys from Jaipur sell their company to HUL for 3200 CR? ➡️ October 2020—Mohit and Rahul Yadav launch Minimalist in Jaipur, a Tier 2 city. They challenge misleading skincare claims with a science-backed approach inspired by The Ordinary. Their debut products include Niacinamide and Vitamin C serums. ➡️ December 2021—It became a viral sensation with its direct-to-consumer (D2C) model, influencers, and social media-driven education. Monthly sales crossed ₹20 crore and expanded to AHA/BHA exfoliators and sunscreens. ➡️ July 2022 - Minimalist hit ₹100 crore in annual revenue, growing 5x yearly. Peak XV and Unilever Ventures acquired a 27% stake at 572 CR, boosting R&D, dermatological testing, and supply chain efficiency. ➡️ March 2023 - Minimalist raised ₹110 crore from Peak XV and Unilever Ventures to expand into the UAE, Singapore, and Bangladesh via Amazon, Nykaa, and local platforms. Revenue soared to 184 CR at a profit of 5 CR, beating local brands like Plum, Pilgrim and Mamaearth. ➡️ March 2024 - Minimalist entered offline retail with its first store in Delhi, shifting to an omnichannel strategy. By October 2024, revenue doubled to ₹347 crore, with profits rising to ₹10.9 crore, making it a mainstream skincare leader competing with global giants like L'Oréal. ➡️ November 2024 - Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) saw Minimalist's success and Gen Z's appeal as a strategic fit. Its dominance of ingredient-led Skincare made it an attractive addition to HUL's premium beauty portfolio. The big news was about to come. ➡️ January 2025 - HUL acquired a 90.5% stake in Minimalist for 2,955 CR and committed to acquiring the remaining 9.5% by 2027, making it India's biggest D2C beauty acquisition at 3265 CR. After paying all investors, Mohit and Rahul Yadav cashed out 1950 CR in India's biggest D2C exit for any founder. Two local boys from the small city of Jaipur built a 3000 CR in the highly competitive skincare space and then sold it to a giant like HUL for 3265 CR—the power of Indian startups and their founders. 💪
