Jensen Huang on why he rarely fires people and will instead “torture them into greatness” In a conversation with Patrick Collison, Jensen shared his thoughts on firing employees. He said he doesn’t like doing it and rarely does, because he believes in helping people improve. Jensen, who started by cleaning bathrooms, now leads a company and feels that anyone can learn and grow if given the right chance. He doesn’t want to give up on people easily. Jensen joked that he’d rather "torture" people into greatness. What he meant was that he believes in pushing people to their limits because sometimes, success comes just when you’re about to give up. He compares it to a coach who pushes their team hard because they know their players are close to that "Aha!" moment — the moment when everything clicks. Imagine giving up just before you hit that breakthrough! Jensen doesn’t want that for anyone, so he keeps pushing, helping them get there. His message is clear: greatness doesn’t happen instantly, and sometimes, it takes a little extra effort and support. For Jensen, it’s all about believing in people and giving them the space to grow, even when it seems tough.
