Diversification The Tale of Maya’s Golden Basket Maya lived in a village known for its unpredictable weather. She inherited a large piece of land and decided to use it wisely. One day, the village elder shared a piece of advice: “Never put all your eggs in one basket, Maya. The winds of fortune change quickly.” Taking this advice to heart, Maya divided her land into three sections. On one part, she planted wheat, which thrived in the sun. In another, she grew rice, which loved the rain. On the last, she planted fruit trees, which could survive in all seasons but took time to grow. The first year, heavy rains came, and her rice field flourished. However, the wheat fields were partially damaged. Maya still managed to earn enough from her rice and fruit to cover her losses. The next year brought a drought. The rice failed, but the wheat yielded a good harvest. The fruit trees also produced their first small yield. Maya realized that no matter the season, at least one crop supported her livelihood. Years passed, and Maya continued to grow her farm. She even traded crops with nearby villages to diversify further. Her steady and resilient approach inspired others. Whenever asked about her success, she’d smile and say, “I followed the elder’s advice: I never placed all my eggs in one basket.” Lesson: Maya’s story teaches the importance of diversification. By spreading her investments (land) across different opportunities (crops), she protected herself against the risks of relying on a single outcome. Whether it’s farming or finances, diversification ensures stability, even when times are uncertain.
