Story of the Most Expensive Game Ever Sold! So the story begins in 2009 when Markus (Notch) and introduced a sandbox game where players could mine, craft, and build anything they imagined. Even it's Beta Version were really popular thus he lauched Mojang Studios to make the full copy. In 2011, the official game was released under the name MINECRAFT! And It was an instant hit! 4 million copies were sold in its first year, followed by 10 million the very next year. Soon, this game was all over the internet, catching Microsoft's attention. In 2014, Microsoft acquired Minecraft for $2.5 billion, making it the most expensive deal for a single game. After the purchase, Minecraft continued to release updates, added story modes, multiplayer, etc. Minecraft also launched it's Education Edition, targeting schools and helping kids learn subjects like science through the game. Today, Minecraft is the best-selling game of all time, with over 200m copies sold, even more than that of GTA5!
