I can tell you that the urban-rural divide in defining the middle class is huge. In cities, a family earning 50k-1.5L per month might be considered middle class, but that same income in a village could make you the local "rich guy". The problem is that our policies and definitions haven't kept up with the rapid economic changes in both rural and urban areas.

This is a fcked up situation. Let me explain my situation. Both of my parents are government employees. In Kerala, there isn’t a clear distinction between villages, towns, or cities. The entire state feels like a blend of urban and semi-urban areas, with hospitals, schools, and infrastructure evenly distributed across regions. We live on 7 cents of land, and as you might know, land availability in Kerala is very limited. We don’t have any generational wealth to rely on, and despite my parents paying lakhs in taxes, we aren’t receiving any significant benefits from the government even tax deduction.

Middle class are the people who migrated from village to big city to earn the money they don't have lands,cars etc

I think it’s truly a mentality. People are either in the lower strata or the opposite

Forget about Economics in general terms the people who strive hard to save penny for their children education sacrificing their needs and health also making kids future to be safe and spent lot of work and time on it they die in poor but their sons and daughters are rich or upgraded to classic rich category on just because of their parents hard savings. If people you are seeingtin this way all are middle class because it's the major value and priority of the category

The issue here is that our policy frameworks are outdated. The middle class isn't just an economic category - it's a social and cultural construct too. In urban areas, it might mean owning a home, having a salaried job, and sending kids to private schools. In rural areas, the markers are different.
