The Nestlé company was founded in 1866 by Henri Nestlé, who was actually born as Heinrich Nestlé in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. A bit of a globetrotter, Henri moved to Vevey, Switzerland, and changed his name to better fit in with the French-speaking locals. It was there that he developed a breakthrough infant food in 1867, which was the start of his journey to becoming a giant in the food industry. Henri's first product was called 'farine lactée', which translates to 'milk flour'. This was a condensed milk formula that was used to fight malnutrition in infants. The product was a hit, and by the 1870s, Nestlé's Infant Food was being sold in the US for $0.50 a bottle.
