2. Not encouraging them or helping them to work in other departments: The one major advantage that any startup can have is new young minds who are pumped up to work. Many times it's observed that they want the explore and contribute in different departments so that they can build their network more and also grow and understand different sectors of the company. When you restrict your employees, being young minds, they will start searching for it outside ;majorly your comptetior companies and if they find that they will have an open playground to turn their learnings into action and see how things work..basically freedome of implementation without worrying about failure then you get a loyal employee cause you valued him as a learner so he will value you and your company as he grows. What companies should understand is loyalty and trust of employees are won from these human gestures and not salary cause any comptetior will pay them 2x to take them away from you.
3. Salary : If you follow the above 2 points, you have already won their heart and salary here works like cheery on top of the cake. I encourage giving surprise gifts to employees whenever I see that the work load is more. I personalise it by myself. It's to show that they are very important to us and we will never want to loose them. Giving a general gift is seen as fake nowdays. If you value someone, you always personalise it. If not that too, then the day you give salary, write a sweet note on mail maybe telling them that how special they are. If you do that with a small increment, you have no idea how much that can boost their willpower. Understanding that after a point any company works by team is very important and to keep this bond strong, you have to do these small act of kindness. For every human, their self respect is important. One will never leave a place where they are appreciated and even if they leave, they will always be greatful to you.
