Its marketed in such a way, when you hear BMW, it means it's too costly.

These cars are too expensive for majority of our population. Just about 1% of the population will be able to afford these cars and they have a plethora of options to choose from, Audi, Mercedes etc. And moreover, we as Indians are more inclined to features than driving experience. So if you want a feature loaded car like a Kia, a BMW 3 series will look very bland even though it's a more powerful car, faster and safer. For an equivalent feature loaded car you will need to go for a higher ended BMW which will cost you upwards of 1 cr. I'm not sure if BMW has done any study on this but I have a strong gut feeling that if they load their basic models with features (which are anyways cheap for them) they could attract far more customers. I have heard from lot of folks who say, their base model is just like an empty 'dhaba'. Ofcourse I am no expert on this topic and these views are my own, and I haven't done any research on this topic, so I might be wrong as well. :)

I think the fact that Indian consumers have so many options in terms of getting a better or equivalent performing gaddi from a maruti or a toyota or be tata. Ladded with options.

Indian customer's are smart they will rather buy Two Premium SUVs from Indian brand which now offers same features as entry-level luxury cars,Than buying an Entry-level car from luxury brand.😂

Tata will prolly buy the indian division on BMW too 🤣

Do they even get their marketing and infrastructure costs back while operating at such a ridiculous thin line? While I understand they make it back in other well-developed countries, shouldn’t they target something more market-specific or would it hurt their parent brand value?

There's an interesting data that most cars in India are sold in EMIs. Even the cheaper ones. India just cannot afford cars.

Indian road infra is not built for super cars and I am not sure if our roads can handle more cars.

Interesting, I though 6-7% contribution might be coming from India.

True but this is set to change slowly as India's per capita gdp rises.
