It depends upon the product and service it is offering.. but if the founders have coding knowledge and have a little to invest. It can be bootstrapped. Take example of medial only, it got funding last month..but even if they hadn't taken funding, they could grow organically. They only had start thete earning methods (like ads) now. I know it is hard to bootstrap an app but not impossible.
