If you are in tech. If you don't have any bias or love on your company. The best thing is to keep on changing the company. If you need an upraisal that much trust me you need to evolve. You need to change jobs. Wokr on diff skills. Then after a certain years you may get close your dream job or if not you will be better satisfied of you achievement of working in many jobs.

Apply for new companies - get a better offer - use that offer to negotiate better pay - if still denied then leave- or else get a promotion in the current company itself. Problem solved.

Have an honest and extended conversation with your manager and HR on what is lacking and what is their expectation. There should be a clear target to achieve for appraisal to happen. If that clarity is lacking things like this incident will happen and crush your morale.

It hurts your confidence like anything. I had a strong urge to quit after I was denied appraisal. It's as if all your work went in vain and was never acknowledged.

The market rn is bad. Nobody is getting hikes. Try switching if you can get a hike. I know it sucks but some managers are insensitive and others just can’t do it due to market conditions.
