Meta firing 15,000 people is not a cost-cutting exercise. It's a declaration that the human premium in tech is over. I watched this play out in my own workflow last month. I replaced a โน35,000/month content team with three AI agents running on my laptop. One writes, one edits, one publishes. Total monthly cost: โน1,200. Output is better, faster, and doesn't take sick leave. Zuckerberg isn't being cruel. He's being rational. The math is brutal. Meta spends $100 billion on AI infrastructure through 2028. That's roughly โน8.3 lakh crore. Against that, 15,000 salaries are rounding error. When your AI models can write code, generate ads, moderate content, and handle customer support , what exactly are those 15,000 people doing that machines can't? Here's what Indian founders keep getting wrong. They think this is about Meta. It's not. It's about every startup that raised money promising "we'll hire the best talent." That pitch just died. The new pitch is "we'll build with the least humans." Investors are already asking me how many roles I can automate before they write a cheque. The implication for anyone building in India: your burn rate is now your biggest risk. Not competition. Not market timing. Burn. Every founder I know is quietly running the same calculation. If AI can replace 40% of your team, and your competitor figures this out first, you die. Simple. What I genuinely don't understand: how do we retrain 15,000 Meta-level engineers when the jobs they're trained for no longer exist? The government talks about upskilling. Upskilling into what? Prompt engineering that pays โน15,000 instead of โน15 lakh? We're not prepared for what happens when the best jobs disappear overnight. The bloodbath is just starting.
