The Government of Punjab has taken an important step towards strengthening women’s financial independence with the announcement of the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhian Satikar Yojna. The scheme was announced on 8 March 2026 during the state budget presentation on International Women's Day. Under this initiative, the state government plans to provide monthly financial assistance directly to eligible women beneficiaries. Each eligible woman will receive ₹1,000 every month, while women belonging to the Scheduled Caste category will receive ₹1,500 per month. The goal of the scheme is simple: to empower women financially and strengthen their role within households and communities. By providing regular financial assistance, the government aims to help women manage daily expenses and improve their economic stability. To qualify for the scheme, the applicant must be a permanent resident woman of Punjab and at least 18 years old. Interestingly, women already receiving benefits under Old Age Pension, Widow Pension, or Disability Pension schemes will also remain eligible to receive assistance under this scheme. However, the scheme excludes government employees, retired government employees, MPs, MLAs, and income tax payers. According to early announcements, registration for the scheme is expected to start from 13 April 2026 on the occasion of Baisakhi.
