Education should never stop because of money—especially for girls from rural India. Keeping this in mind, the Madhya Pradesh Government launched the Gaon Ki Beti Yojana to support talented rural girl students who want to pursue higher education after Class 12. This scholarship scheme is meant exclusively for rural area girl students who have scored 60% or more marks in Class 12 and have taken admission in a graduation, engineering, or medical course. The scholarship amount ranges from ₹5,000 to ₹7,500 per year, depending on the course. What makes this scheme special is that the amount is transferred directly to the student’s bank account through DBT, removing middlemen and delays. Girls from General, SC, ST, and OBC categories are eligible, provided they belong to a BPL family. Applications are accepted via the State Scholarship Portal 2.0, and the entire process is transparent and trackable. Rural girls studying in cities for college can still apply, as long as their residence and school were in a rural area.
