Founded in 2021 by Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra, the idea came from a failed experiment, KiranaKart, where they noticed something uncomfortable but clear: customers cared more about how fast groceries arrived than what they ordered or how cheap it was. So they pivoted and focused on: * Small, frequent orders * Dense urban neighborhoods * Convenience over choice To make speed real, they ditched marketplace model and built company-owned dark stores close to customers. In 2023, Zepto raised $200M and hit a $1.4B valuation, becoming Indiaโs fastest unicorn that year, competing head-on with Blinkit and Instamart. Speed wasnโt a feature. It was the strategy.
