They are called "dark" because they are not open to the public and operate exclusively for fulfilling online orders. These stores have gained significant importance with the rise of e-commerce and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when online shopping saw a significant surge. Operation wise : They are highly automated, with systems in place to quickly pick, pack, and dispatch orders.
