Some breakthroughs in building do not come from talent or training. They come from listening to the one person everyone else gives up on. One of our best batches had a player who disrupted everything. He would not coordinate he shouted at teammates he did not gel and he drained the energy of the group. Something told me this was not behaviour. It was a story. I met him for a quiet one hour at the court. After minutes of silence he opened up. He was going through a rough phase. He joined to feel better and connect yet his introvert nature and anger held him back. He felt judged and alone. In the next session he came smiling. He communicated clearly he partnered well and the whole batch felt lighter. Weeks later he won a doubles event with the same partner he once disliked. They are now close friends. This shift happened not because we corrected him but because we listened. People rarely act out by choice. They act out when they carry weight no one notices.
