LET THAT SINK IN!!! In earlier report (2021), about 931 million tonnes of food was wasted, ~17 % of food available to consumers, with households discarding 61 % of that. Source: UNEP, Food Waste Index Report 2021 — “food waste … was an estimated 931 million tonnes … 17 % of total food available to consumers … 61 % was from households, 26 % from food service and 13 % from retail.”
