𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 ? In 2024, around 83% of India’s power sector investment was directed into clean energy, showing a massive pivot toward renewables. India attracted about US $2.4 billion in development finance for clean energy, making it the world’s top recipient of such funds. Total renewable investment in India in 2024 was $13 billion, but the country needs about $68 billion annually to meet its 2030 target of 500 GW non-fossil capacity. As of December 2024, 46.3% of India’s total installed power capacity (about 203 GW out of 452.7 GW) came from renewable sources like solar, wind, hydro, and biomass. The Gujarat Hybrid Renewable Energy Park in Kutch will generate 30 GW of renewable energy, enough to power 18 million homes and cut 5 million tons of CO₂ per year. AMPIN Energy Transition currently has a 5 GW operational portfolio across 22 states and aims to expand to 10 GW by 2030, supported by a $50 million equity investment from Siemens and others. Hexa Climate Solutions acquired Fortum’s India renewable energy portfolio and plans to invest $500 million to grow its clean energy pipeline and climate-tech platform. CleanMax Enviro Energy Solutions is planning an IPO worth ₹4,000–5,000 crore to boost its expansion in rooftop solar and corporate clean energy services. The Indian government approved ₹20,000 crore of green investments by NTPC and ₹7,000 crore by NLC India into renewable energy development. Bihar signed MoUs worth ₹5,337 crore to develop 2,357 MW of solar, wind, pumped storage, and floating solar projects. Andhra Pradesh plans to become a green hydrogen hub by 2030, targeting 1.5 million tonnes of hydrogen per year and 5 GW of electrolyser capacity by 2029. The cost of green hydrogen is expected to reduce from ₹460/kg to ₹160/kg in Andhra Pradesh through government and private sector innovation. India’s energy startups are working in various clean tech domains such as solar irrigation, biogas, energy storage, hydrogen production, and blockchain-based energy markets. Public sector and startup collaboration is accelerating; government incentives and private equity are backing large-scale clean energy infrastructure and innovation. Energy sector IPOs and international funding are scaling up rapidly, making the sector one of the hottest for investment and policy focus in 2025.
