The Khavda Renewable Energy Park is located in Gujarat's Kutch district and spans 538 square kilometers, making it one of the largest renewable energy projects globally. It has a planned capacity of 30 GW, integrating solar and wind power to maximize land use and energy efficiency. The park is expected to produce 81 billion units of clean energy annually, powering 16ā18 million households. Carbon emissions are projected to decrease by 50 million tonnes annually, equivalent to removing 12.6 million cars or conserving 60,300 tonnes of coal. Around 100,000 jobs will be created during the construction and operational phases, boosting local economic development. Infrastructure work began in 2022, and the energy generation phase started in 2023. The project is expected to become largely operational by 2026, with full completion, including planned expansions, anticipated by 2030. Its renewable energy systems are expected to operate for 25ā30 years, contributing to Indiaās goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and advancing toward net-zero emissions by 2070. The project is being developed by Adani Green Energy Limited and other renewable energy developers as part of Indiaās broader clean energy initiative. The project has faced challenges such as the harsh terrain of the Rann of Kutch and ecological concerns, with ongoing scrutiny about its impact on local biodiversity and communities.
