I started an AI-based SaaS CRM as a solo founder (development background). After building 20% of the product, a sales professional approached me to join as co-founder and brought in his wife too. We registered the company and split equity: 45% me, 45% him, 10% his wife. Now, months later, there’s still zero revenue. I feel I gave away too much equity (they deserved ~20% total), and my co-founder is overselling features, creating more work for me. He won’t renegotiate equity or remove his wife. What should I do? so basically they own the company and not you.. 55% if they want they can overturn any of your decision. you can do nothing about it now apart from requesting. That's why company formation things are critical and you should consult with business consultants.

This is why technical founders get eaten alive in business. You built the hard part, they sweet-talked their way to equal equity. Stand your ground, demand renegotiation, or walk away and rebuild solo. Your skills are portable, their promises aren't.

You're screwed unless you have vesting schedules. Without them, they keep their equity even if they leave tomorrow. This is why you NEVER split equity upfront. Lawyer up and see if there's any way to restructure, but honestly, you might need to cut your losses.
