Started from a village in Tamil Nadu and built an 1100 CR Hospital. 1. Born along the banks of the River Kaveri in the temple city of Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), Tamil Nadu, Manivannan Selvaraj aspired to become an engineer, like many in the 1980s. But his brother (Aravindan) advised him to pursue medicine, to which he agreed. But there was a condition. 👇🏻 2. He had to study in Chennai, so he studied at Madras Medical College and then moved to Pune for his MD in Anesthesiology. By 1999, Dr Manivannan wanted to transform the healthcare system in the Tier 2 city of Trichy. He wanted to make it more personal and affordable. 🙌 3. With his mentor, Dr S. Chandrakumar, he envisioned bridging the "trust gap" between patients and hospitals by offering empathetic care. In 1999, Dr Selvaraj opened a modest 30-bed hospital in Trichy, as part of Sri Kauvery Medical Care. Kauvery Hospital was born. 🚀 3. Dr Selvaraj focused on the 5S methodology— sort, set in order, shine, standardise, and sustain — to offer 30% lower critical care costs to customers. The model proved to be so successful that. Kauvery Hospital expanded to 200 beds within its first two years of operation. ✅ 4. By February 2009, Sri Kauvery Medical Care acquired Kauvery Medical Care hospitals at a mere revenue of 84 lakhs and raised 30 CR from IndiaVenture. As it became the first Tier 2 hospital in India to receive private equity funding, it opened a seven-story, 300-bed multispecialty hospital in Chennai in 2011. 🙌 5. Dr Selvaraj had shown what a small city boy could do. But he knew Chennai was very different from Trichy. He needed to have many areas of expertise and house hundreds of doctors with thousands of surgeries every month. All that while maintaining the cost. He had to devise a plan. 🤔 6. He entered new areas, such as Paediatrics (2013) and neuroscience (2015), with 160 doctors. He also placed the hospital in a central location and focused on quality care, which drew people from as far as 200 kilometres away. By 2015, it had achieved a revenue of 29.2 CR. 💰 7. Growing 23.5% yearly, Kauvery expanded to over 1000 beds and a revenue of 71 CR at a profit of 14 CR by 2018. It now had eight hospitals and expanded into new cities, including Salem, Hosur, and Kariakudi in Tamil Nadu. By 2019, it raised 140 CR from Lighstone. 📈 8. Kauvery was not just a state name now. It had expanded to Bangalore as well. As it touched a revenue of 158.8 CR and 1500 beds by 2023, it raised 574 CR from IIFL. 💵 10. Today, Kauvery Hospitals clocks revenue of 181 CR at a profit of 51 CR. At 2500 beds with an occupancy rate of 90 days, it is worth 1100 CR. 💪 ➡️Dr Manivannan Selvaraj started another 200-bed mother and childcare hospital, named "Maa Kauvery," in Trichy in 2024. He is truly the Son of Maa Kauvery. 🙏
