Meet the doctor from Kerala who built a 20,000 CR Healthcare empire. 1. Born in the small village of Kalpakanchery in Kerala, Azad Moopen was inspired to serve the community right from childhood. With this aim, he completed his MBBS degree with a gold medal. Like his father, he also became a teacher at Calicut Medical College and then in 1987 came. 👇 2. Dr Azad Moopen travelled to the United Arab Emirates as part of a philanthropic effort to raise funds for building a mosque in his hometown in Kerala. He saw the significant need for quality healthcare services for expatriates. He wanted to do something about it. 🤔 3. Azad had made up his mind. With a friend's help, He set up his first health clinic at Al Rafa Polyclinic in Bur Dubai near Port Rashid, providing high-quality healthcare at affordable costs to the 90% expatriate blue-collar workforce community who could not afford them. ✅ 4. With the early success, he also opened a speciality medical centre - Medinova Diagnostics and Union Pharmacy in Bur Dubai. It became the fastest-growing company in UAE, tackling health from a 360-degree perspective. But Azad did not forget his roots. 🙌 5. In 2001, he started Kerala's first multi-speciality tertiary hospital - MIMS, in Kozhikode, along with a charitable trust to support cancer treatments and advanced surgical programmes. Seeing the growth, it raised 200 CR from India Value Fund at a valuation of 710 CR. 💰 6. It kept expanding in a hub and spoke manner - its smaller clinics (spokes) referred patients to its larger hospitals for specialized care (hubs). By 2010, it expanded with the Al Raffah Hospital in Oman and shifted to a new brand name. Aster DM Healthcare was born. 🚀 7. With the new name, new fortunes followed. As Aster scaled to 900 beds in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities and planned to open an entire Medcity with nine centres of excellence, it raised 500 CR from Olympus Capital. It became worth 1963 CR. 📉 8. Aster DM expanded to 9 hospitals, 90 clinics, 206 retail pharmacies in UAE and Gulf states, ten multi-speciality hospitals and seven clinics in India by September 2017. And eventually, the big moment came in the next five months. 👇 9. On 26th February 2018, Aster, listed on the stock market with its 980.14 CR IPO, oversubscribed 1.3 times. It became worth 9600 CR. 💸 10. Today, Aster DM Healthcare has 30 hospitals, 120 clinics, and 425 pharmacies across seven countries. It clocks a revenue of 3699 CR at a profit of 212 CR and is worth 20,409 CR. 💪 ➡️ But, the best part is that Dr Azad Moopen provides free heart surgeries for disadvantaged children under the "Treatment for 1,000 Hearts" program. 🙏
