I recently came across some Cognitive Biases that are quite interesting, which can help self-assessment. What basically ae these biases? Cognitive Biases are the errors in our thinking, which are done to make decisions quicker and less painful for some, but this doesn't always makes them reliable as most of them leads us astray. So the first Bias, maybe the most known, Confirmation Bias- This is the bias where a person only seeks for the information that supports or confirm their views or belief. This stops them from being a neutral thinker. Anchoring Bias- This is a bias which we all have been a victim of, where we always give priority to the first number/information that we see. Example- A T-shirt marked at 5000, but purchased at a bargained amount of 3000. Feels satisfactory while the T-shirt still being overpriced. Social Proof- Ever felt like going for a lane which has more cars than a lane with no cars on a toll plaza? This is also called Herd Mentality, where we choose what everyone chooses. Sunk Cost Fallacy- An year of hard-work but getting nor results, still grinding for it? this is what sunk cost fallacy is, where you don't stop even if losses are involved because a lot is invested in the past. Survivorship Bias- Do you remember a person's failure story? Why is it always about successful stories? Remembers college drop-outs becoming billionaires but ignores a lot who turned homeless. It is very important to be informed about the biases that you might posses, as these biases affect your decisions and choices you make.
