While negativity bias plays a huge role, it's too simple to say it's all that drives news. People also read news for answers, solutions, and to understand important events. We need to know about problems to fix them, not just to feel afraid. Many also seek out positive stories and progress. So, while bad news gets clicks, it's not the only thing keeping us hooked.
